Fairfield County Workforce Center opened in 2020

Established in 2020, the Workforce Center follows a business-first training program for high-demand industries including manufacturing, skilled trades, and health care. The programs are offered through a collaborative partnership between the Fairfield County Commissioners, Ohio University Lancaster Campus and the Russ College of Engineering, and Hocking College. The partnership focuses on economic development through training and workforce development.

During the 2021-2022 school year there were 45 students who completed the pre-apprenticeship or phlebotomy program at the Workforce Center and 269 students who completed the Career Readiness Endorsement from across six local school districts.

The workforce center has received state-wide recognition from leaders for it’s ability to collaborate with businesses, educators, students, parents and job seekers. Read about Governor DeWine’s visit and how he believes our workforce center should be a model for the state. "I think you're going to see other communities come in, as they already are, and look at this and say, 'Hey, we could do this in our community,'" he said. "I think the key is cooperation and people pulling together. It started with OU (Ohio University) and Hocking (College) on how they were going to work together. They got together and figured it out."
